Located along South Beach Road in Kozhikode, Overdose Cafe was envisioned as an intimate, aesthetic coastal sanctuary that frames views of the Arabian Sea while immersing guests in lush tropical greenery.
The design challenge involved selecting resilient, salt-tolerant tropical species capable of thriving in bright coastal sunlight and sea breeze while complementing the café's warm, earthy textures, rustic stucco walls, timber windows, and gravel courtyard.
DESIGN APPROACH & GALLERY
We layered cascading curtain creepers (Vernonia elliptica) along the upper parapet walls to create living green drapes that cast dappled shadows across the courtyard. Custom-cast architectural concrete planters in varying heights anchor both the outdoor gravel seating zone and the breezy sea-facing indoor dining room, paired with sculptural palms, Calathea lutea, and indoor canopy trees.
THE RESULT
An effortlessly calm, biophilic hospitality destination on Kozhikode Beach where indoor and outdoor dining merge with the coastal landscape—turning every table at Overdose Cafe into a shaded tropical retreat.
